  1. Book Clubbers selected “The Phenomenals, A Tangle of Traitors” by F. E. Higgins as our first read. I can’t wait to get started!

Remember members that we decided that next week we would discuss ideas up to the end of chapter 6, so read up to page 45 to avoid spoilers!

  2. Me and hettypanda have just finished the first chapter and was really good but quite gruesome.
How much have you read and can’t wait till next week

    Thanks a lot!

  3. Week 2

Excellent book club again. Great sense of excitement about the book. I think the book clubbers made a good choice with “The Phenomenals, A Tangle of Traitors”.

Brilliant discussions about the characters. There was lots of love for Vincent “The Thief” and his many gadgets. In fact perhaps a little jealousy over his “smitelight”.

Folly appeals to me and many of the other book club members. She has a certain air of mystery and is a strong and independent girl. We are interested to find out what part she will play as the story unravels.

Hettypanda had interesting ideas about Citrine. She pointed out how she isn’t altogether what you would expect from a spoilt little rich girl. I’m now very curious about how her character might develop in the story.

Really insightful ideas about the characters made for an energetic discussion this week. I really enjoyed it!

  4. Next week…

We agreed that we would discuss events up to page 100 in our next meeting. If book clubbers have read beyond this, it might be a good idea to refresh your memory of this section before Friday.

Themes that were suggested for discussion next time were:
    – Leopold Kamptulicon
    – The Festival
    – Jonah

    Happy reading!
    🙂

  5. I just finished the book today at school, and it’s really good!! Hettypanda said that it was hard to get into, but if you read more then it’s really good!!:-)

  6. hey SezzyB I am starting to like Folly more too I didn’t think much of her at first, but now I am starting to wonder why she is here I wonder if she is the one who saved Vincent. 🙂

  7. Hi guys read 2 chapters already only 6 to go.I’m very eager to see what happens to citrine and victor.

    From Annie Orphan=0

P.S really cool how we are all in the same school bloging

  8. Excellent book club on Friday again.

Some interesting views and ideas about the characters. Many book clubbers feel there is more to Folly than meets the eye.

We were disappointed that we hadn’t uncovered much about the festival, but our quicker readers promise we will find out more as we read further.

Changing opinions over the characters, Folly is growing in popularity although Vincent is still a firm favourite.

Lots of discussion about how the 2 story lines (Vincent and Folly’s and Citrine’s) will come together and what they will end up saving the city from.
    Ideas?

  9. We agreed that we would discuss events up to chapter 23 next week.

Those of you that have read beyond this it might be worth refreshing your memories about this part of the story.

  10. SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ PAST THE 8TH LINE ON PAGE 183. I’M ONLY DOING THIS SO THAT I DON’T HAVE THE PRESSURE OF KEEPING IT A SECRET!

Kamptulicon finds out that Folly is the Lurid’s brother when she calls it by it’s real name to tell it not to kill her. (the Lurid’s name is Axel).

  11. who wonders about what folly is doing because now SHE’S getting on my nervs instead of The Brute ( Jonah Scrimshander ) but Edgar
    is still anoying me .

  12. The book and this term’s book club are both coming to an end!

Fantastic ideas discussed on Friday about the changing relationships between the characters and our different responses to them.
A really interesting point was the similarities between Leopold and Folly. Could they both be after the same thing?

Next week we will review the book as a group and bring our own favorite reads to recommend to one another.

    Happy reading!
    🙂

  13. Hi Anny Orphan how far have you read up to because I have got 6 more chapters to go i am so exited and who is your fav charicter NOW because mine is still folly.

  14. I can’t wait until we’re in year 6, because then we can still do the book club, but there will be a major downfall without miss Simpkins, the drinks, and of course, the biscuits!! 🙂

  15. SPOILER ALERT
DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE NOT TO UP TO PADGE 203 FIRST LINE !

FOLLY LOOKS REALLY SCARY WHEN SHE TURNS INTO A LURID I NEW SOMTHING WAS WRONG AND FOLLY WAS KEEPING SOMETHING FROM THEM. 🙂

    • My fave character is still Folly even though she did get turned in to a lurid and then back again because she always knows what to do. What about you hettypanda2,annieorphan and reuben reader ?
